Product Description:
Data warehousing and data mining provide techniques for collecting information from distributed databases and for performing data analysis. The ever expanding, tremendous amount of data collected and stored in large databases has far exceeded our human ability to comprehend--without the proper tools. There is a critical need for data analysis that can automatically analyze data, summarize it and predict future trends. In the modern age of Internet connectivity, concerns about denial of service attacks, computer viruses and worms are extremely important.
Data Warehousing and Data Mining Techniques for Cyber Security contributes to the discipline of security informatics. The author discusses topics that intersect cyber security and data mining, while providing techniques for improving cyber security. Since the cost of information processing and internet accessibility is dropping, an increasing number of organizations are becoming vulnerable to cyber attacks. This volume introduces techniques for applications in the area of retail, finance, and bioinformatics, to name a few.
Data Warehousing and Data Mining Techniques for Cyber Security is designed for practitioners and researchers in industry. This book is also suitable for upper-undergraduate and graduate-level students in computer science.

Expert MySQL (Expert

# Publisher: Apress (January 22, 2007)
# Language: English
# ISBN-10: 1590597419
# ISBN-13: 978-1590597415

Book Description

Since the enormous number of new features made available with MySQL release 5.0, MySQL has been gaining steam as a viable alternative to database behemoths like Oracle and IBM DB2. MySQL users now have the ability to extend MySQL with new SQL commands, optimize query execution, and embed MySQL within low-resource environments like embedded devices and kiosks.

Expert MySQL, by Dr. Charles A. Bell, is the first book to examine these opportunities in detail, showing you how to wield maximum control over this powerful open source database. You'll learn how to create your own custom storage handlers, ensuring maximum flexibility and speed within your specialized applications. You'll also gain valuable insight into MySQL's architecture and learn how to tweak its behavior through custom changes to the source code.

About the Author
Dr. Charles A. Bell conducts research in emerging technologies. He is an adjunct professor at Virginia Commonwealth University where he teaches graduate-level computer science courses and recently joined MySQL AB as a senior software developer. He lives in a small town in rural Virginia with his loving wife. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005. His research interests include database systems, versioning systems, semantic web, and agile software development.

Oracle8i: The Complete Reference

As documentation of a product that incorporates a highly reliable database server, a set of utilities, and a development environment, Oracle8i: The Complete Reference essentially sets out to do the impossible. The great thing is that it succeeds. For all but the most obscure and situation-specific Oracle8i questions that database administrators (DBAs) and developers might have, this book is almost certain to have the information they need. It explains all the essentials with a straightforward combination of prose, conceptual diagrams, and code listings, so even new Oracle DBAs will derive a lot of use from the authors' work. The key concepts--including relational database design, and queries that use SQL and PL/SQL--get lots of attention. Many details seem to come up at least twice, so readers get a couple of angles on a given subject.

This book isn't a rehash of earlier editions, any more than Oracle8i itself is a rehash of its predecessors. The authors pay special attention to the new aspects of the Oracle environment, particularly to those having to do with stored procedures and Oracle's deepening relationship with the Java programming language. Don't expect to learn Java from the ground up in these pages, but look forward to a comprehensive statement of how Java code (and SQLJ queries) can make your Oracle applications more capable and platform-independent. Every Oracle DBA (and probably every Oracle developer, too) should keep this volume on hand; it's a definitive reference. Although the book isn't designed specifically as a study aid, you certainly could use it as a guide while preparing for Oracle certification. --David Wall

Topics covered: Administration of Oracle databases, and development of applications based upon them. Administrators of Oracle7.x, 8.0.x, and 8i systems will appreciate the sections on performance tuning, optimization, backup, recovery, and general relational database design. Readers with more of a development bent will like the coverage of SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, and Oracle's Java features. Sample code appears on a companion CD-ROM, as well as in print.

Product Description
Announcing the 10th Anniversary Edition of the best-selling Oracle book of all time--Oracle8i: The Complete Reference! Written by Oracle experts and complete with a fully searchable book and reusable code on CD-ROM, this is the most definitive resource available on Oracle8i. It's a must-have for every Oracle professional.

Database Management Systems

Publisher: McGraw-Hill
Publication: 2000, English
ISBN: 9780072465358
Pages: 740

DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS is designed for use in a course in databases. This book is distinctive in its emphasis on the practical side of databases. This means that it has unique coverage of database design, uses SQL throughout the book to demonstrate different concepts, and has an emphasis on query evaluation and optimization. In this revision the author has moved coverage of the ER model earlier in the book. Additionally, he has added chapters on Internet Databases, Decision Support, Data Mining, Object-Relational Databases, Spatial Databases and Deductive and Active Databases. DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS is accompanied by a website that includes solutions, presentation materials, practical SQL assignments, the minibase software and helpful lecture tips.

Provides a hands-on approach to relational database systems, with an emphasis on practical topics such as indexing methods, SQL, and database design. DLC: Database management.

Database management systems have become ubiquitous as a fundamental tool for managing information, and a course on the principles and practice of database systems is now an integral part of computer science curricula. This book covers the fundamentals of modern database management systems, in particular relational database systems. It is intended as a text for an introductory database course for undergraduates, and we have attempted to present the material in a clear, simple style.

A quantitative approach is used throughout and detailed examples abound. An extensive set of exercises (for which solutions are available online to instructors) accompanies each chapter and reinforces students' ability to apply the concepts to real problems. The book contains enough material to support a second course, ideally supplemented by selected research papers. It can be used, with the accompanying software and SQL programming assignments, in two distinct kinds of introductory courses:

A course that aims to present the principles of database systems, with a practical focus but without any implementation assignments. The SQL programming assignments are a useful supplement for such a course. The supplementary Minibase software can be used to create exercises and experiments with no programming.
A course that has a strong systems emphasis and assumes that students have good programming skills in C and C++. In this case the software can be used as the basis for projects in which students are asked to implement various parts of a relational DBMS. Several central modules in the project software (e.g., heap les, bu er manager, B+ trees, hash indexes, various join methods, concurrency control, and recovery algorithms) are described in sucient detail in the text to enable students to implement them, given the (C++) class interfaces.
